Douglas was born in Detroit, Michigan. Joined the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman and served in San Diego and Japan. During his enlistment, he met and married his wife, Stephanie. Douglas became a valued employee with El Camino Memorial in 1985, working at Lewis Colonial Benbough Mortuary. Throughout his career with EL Camino Memorial, Douglas has worked as Apprentice, Arranger, Assistant Manager and Manager.

Nicolas moved to San Diego from Riverside, California in 2001 attending Southwestern College majoring in Fire Science. He has been with El Camino since January 2010, starting at El Camino Memorial Pacific Beach Chapel. He enjoys surfing the local breaks, an avid "Keep your oceans beautiful" activist.
